Destination Wedding Photography
Photography is probably one of the most important parts of your wedding. You want to make it count.
Should you bring a photographer with you for your destination wedding?
Despite all the hours planning and making your dream wedding come true, no wedding ever goes off without a hitch.
The majority are minor issues, yet some of those hitches are easier to swallow than others. This is magnified when you’re doing a destination wedding where you’ll be placing all your faith in the resort to handle all of your vendors and set up for the most part. If your flowers aren’t an exact match, you can roll with it. If your cake has a lean to it, you can laugh it off then eat it straight. But if you end up disappointed with your wedding photos, that’s a no-fix scenario; you’re stuck with them. These are the photos you’ll have as your memories of the best day of your life. They’re the photos your kids and grand kids will carry with them into their lives.
How do you want to remember your day?
Bringing your own photographer to your destination wedding offers you assurance of being able to research and select the exact photographer you want based on style, personality, experience etc. More often than not, resort photographers are assigned to you and you’ll have no prior knowledge or experience with them. Will their style and personality match with you and your guests? By bringing your own photographer to your destination wedding, you’re able to do your homework, interview them either in person or via video chat, and find out if they are the person you want to spend your day with. This part of your destination wedding planning provides you with the confidence that your day will be as memorable as you hope it to be.
By bringing your own photographer with you, you have that connection back home. You have that security that your photos will be given to you within the time frame the photographer gives you at booking. You also have the option to make the party last the whole week! Having your own personal photographer with you gives you the chance to also have family sessions done, a trash the dress session, or even your engagement photos done!
Your photographer will spend more time with you on your wedding day than anyone else. This is especially true with a destination wedding where many photographers that you bring with you, will offer an full days coverage; not so with most resort photo packages. Spending that much time with a photographer makes it so important that your personalities match and that you’re 100% comfortable with them throughout the day. The more comfortable and confident you are with your wedding vendors, the better you are to be able to let go and simply enjoy your day without irritations and stress.
People will always remember the way you made them feel. A photographers priorities being with the quality of work they provide, but the experience that the Bride, Groom and even the guests have, is every bit as important. You won't be able to predict this experience with someone you have never met or worked with.
With any wedding pro that travels with you, you’ll have additional costs to cover, such as travel and resort stay. Pricing from photographers can vary quite a bit with each doing it a little different from the next. Some charge a flat rate for travel and wedding package, others will break it out separately and some photographers will shoot your wedding for the cost of the trip alone. This is what I am offering at this time.
For a limited time, I am offering couples having destination weddings to just pay for my travel, resort and food fees. I want the wedding side of my business to reflect destination and elopement weddings, therefore I am currently in the portfolio building stage. I have experience photographing destination weddings for family and friends, and have photographed in Hawaii, Mexico and Muskoka. Destinations don't need to be down south - they can be a few hours from the city, or over seas as well. I am ready and willing to travel anywhere you can say "I Do!"
Alright fine. We need YOU as our Photographer! What's next?!
As your Destination Wedding Photographer, you will be responsible for paying only the following for myself:
Flight (and baggage fees)
Hotel/Resort (preferably where the wedding is taking place or where you are staying)
Food (including all travel food. ie. Food on flight, coffee to stay alive, shots of tequila.... kidding about the last one...or am I?)
I highly recommend looking into bringing your own photographer with you to your destination wedding. Above all, your wedding is a major milestone. It’s also a major investment of time, money and your futures as husband and wife. It only makes sense to invest those efforts in the memory of it for you and your future generations. A destination wedding requires a great deal of thought and planning to pull off, it makes good sense to have professionals around you that you can rely on and trust. The cake, flowers, DJ etc. will be gone… but great photographs will always be there offering you a return ticket to that special time.
It's so worth it, plus you have your photographer there the whole time with you to hang out! I mean, I'm pretty cool... so I don't know why anyone would want to get rid of me after one day.... ;)
